Exclusive Interview: House of Gucci Stars Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and Jeremy Irons

11/14/2021 • 3 min read

HOUSE OF GUCCI is the new crime drama by Ridley Scott (THE MARTIAN, GLADIATOR, ALIEN). It's a riveting look inside the family behind one of the world’s most famous fashion brands. The movie focuses on Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), whose meteoric rise to the top of Gucci's power structure was influenced and perhaps orchestrated by his wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga).

Cinemark sat down with Driver and Jared Leto, who plays Maurizio Gucci's cousin and enabler. "I get to play the one and only Paolo Gucci, a guy who is a dreamer, full of life," said Leto. "He’s a frustrated artist who really is just fighting for a chance to bring his work to the world and it was a very transformative opportunity for me. We did about six hours of hair and makeup every day, and about an hour to take it off."

Maurizio and Patrizia have a unique relationship. "Their love is almost quantified in a stock percentage and the interesting thing about Maurizio," Driver said, "is that he kind of starts [off as] the most wise and distant and aware of how toxic that is. Then [he] is eventually seduced by the very thing that he knows is bad for him because he falls in love with this person, Patrizia, played by Lady Gaga who’s very much outside his world. He is not someone who is not really fully realized yet and she kind of takes over."

Jeremy Irons plays Maurizio’s father, Rodolfo Gucci. He talked about what surprised him while learning more about this family. "What I found fascinating about the story was how this situation arose - how it occurred and the in-fighting within the family, which I suppose most families or many families have to put up with," he explained.

"We all know Gucci, but I don't think many of us know of how shocking this true story is," Leto added. "It’s exciting, it’s this big, giant, dysfunctional, dynasty of a family and they are just basically at war with each other all the time, so I think it’s quite fascinating to watch."
