Scream Interview: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette

1/13/2022 • 3 min read

After years of quiet, a masked killer is wreaking havoc on the quiet town of Woodsboro, CA. Ghostface is back in SCREAM, the fifth movie in the series that helped revive and redefine horror more than 25 years ago.

Ghostface isn't the only returning character in this scary, funny, and fast-paced movie. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), whose boyfriend ended up being a part of a killer duo behind the mask in the original movie, is back, joined by two other longtime survivors: journalist Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) and former sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette).

“People love these movies and I'm really grateful that people love these movies,” Campbell said. “They want to keep seeing them and people want to keep making them. You know, 25 years together now and I'm still curious to see what will happen.”

“Dewey - he has a limp again,” Arquette said about his character. “He lost it, he worked his way through it, and then the fourth [movie] he was better. Now he’s got the limp, lives in a trailer, it’s not the life he'd seen himself having, so he's not a cop anymore.”

“Dewey went down, Gale went up and Sydney’s a mom,” Cox added.

This movie parallels the original, as a group of high school students are on the edge when their circle is attacked by Ghostface. The young characters are well-versed in what’s happening, since their town has experienced multiple killing sprees in the past. So we asked the cast, "how do you survive?"

“Run,” Arquette said. Campbell laughingly agreed: “Run! Don't try and be tough. Get out of there.”

“Leave the town,” said newcomer Sonia Ammar. “Why do they always stay? I don’t know.”

“Don't go back for your friends, save yourself. Don't go upstairs or the closet,” Mikey Madison stressed.

“Play dead. Soon as that killer walks in, you go, ‘oh shoot, I just had a heart attack,’” said Jasmin Savoy Brown. “You gotta stick the tongue out to sell it.” Her castmate, Mason Gooding, disagreed. “Playing dead is crazy - that's the fastest way to die. Take Jiu-Jitsu classes, have 'em tricked, think you can’t do nothing and then bring them in for a Judo flip.”
